These questions and comments relate to the sermon on 19 March 2023, Power Clothed In Grace.  The primary scripture is 1 Peter 3:1-7.  The message can be heard on this website.

1.  This is a tricky topic: wives submit to your husbands.  Remember the context to which Peter was writing - Christians living as exiles in a pagan world.

2.  What do you know about the potential troubles of a Christian wife, maybe from pagan background, maybe married to a non-Christian husband, living in the Roman Empire of the first century A.D.?

3.  Does the scripture describe voluntary submission or coercion and forced submission?

4.  Why did Peter even include this instruction in his letter?  How does it relate to living as an exile in the Roman Empire?

5.  How does this instruction relate to marriage relationships today?

6.  Please read the following passages for more information: Ephesians 5:21-27; Colossians 3:18-19; Titus 2:3-5; and Genesis 1 & 2 wouldn't hurt.

7.  Go back to the word submission in these texts.  What does it mean and what does it not mean?

8.  Verse 7 gives some pretty clear direction to husbands.  How must husbands lead?

9.  How would a husband's mistreatment of his wife affect his prayer?

Have fun with this one if you are married or want to be married!
