These questions and comments relate to the sermon on 11 September 2022, Loving Adversaries.  The primary scripure is Matthew 5:38-48, and also references to Exodus 21:22-25; Leviticus 24:10-23; Deuteronomy 19:15-21; and Leviticus 19:18.

1.  Summarize Matthew 5:38-42.  What is the main idea?

2.  Now compare the Old Testament verses listed above.  To whom are these instructions directed and why?

3.  Move to Matthew 5:43-48.  You have hear that it was said, love your neighbor and hate you enemy.  This must have been a popular saying of the day.  Does it accurately reflect God's commands?  (see Lev 19:18)

4. How do these commands relate to serious threats or life & death matters?

5.  The big problem...how can we love our enemies?  Really, how do you do this?

6.  In groups spend some time kicking around these ideas and figure out practical application.
