These questions and comments relate to the sermon on 26 February 2023, Born To Be Holy.  The primary scripture is 1 Peter 1:13 - 2:3.  Audio recordings of the sermons are available on this website.  The LBC YouTube channel has video from Sunday morning services.  The LBC phone app and the printed bulletin have sermon notes to help listen and remember.  

1.  What does it mean to be holy?  

2.  Where in scripture will you find commands to be holy?  verses 15-16 (There are many such commands.  You can look in a concordance or search the bible app on your phone.)

3.  How can we mere sinners be holy?  What is the first prerequisite?  Hint: Peter was writing to believers.

4.  Peter's first instruction is to get your mind right, decide to be holy.  v. 13  The more literal translation from the original language there is "gird up the loins of your mind."  First century men typically wore long robes.  They would tuck their robes into their belts to ready for labor.  What image helps you thing about getting your mind ready to work?

5.  Re-read verses 17-21.  What does it mean to live in reverent fear?  How is that helpful toward being holy?

6.  How does loving one another help us be holy? v. 22  

7.  What is the source of true love?  vv. 23-25  Remember your imperishable inheritance.

8. The first three verses of 1 Peter 2 give us two further instructions to help with holiness.  What are those two instructions and how do they fit together?  Galatians 5:19-23 may help.

9.  What nourishment do we need to grow spiritually?  What is your system for gathering the needed nourishment?

Be holy because God is holy.
