This discussion guide relates to the sermon on 13 November 2022, The Good Shepherd.  The primary scripture is John 10:7-18.  The sermon can be heard on this website.

1.  Read through the passage and make note of the statements that seem most significant on the first pass.

2.  What do you know about the shepherding practices that might help understand Jesus' analagies?

3.  Jesus and Matthew used this phrase frequently, "Truly, truly, I say to you..." What does it tell us about the following statements?

4.  How many times did Jesus use the "I am" phrase in John 10?

5.  What is the significance of Jesus being the gate or door of the sheep pen?

6.  What makes Jesus a good shepherd?

7.  From this passage, what is the relationship between Jesus and God the Father?

8.  What predictions are stated in this passage that the first hearers might not have known?

9.  One of the main threads of this section of Matthew is the ongoing struggle between Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders.  What was Jesus telling them about himself in John 10?

10.  Read verse 16 again.  Who are the "other sheep?"  How many kingdoms does Jesus have?

This passage ought to make you glad, if you are a faithful follower of Jesus.  Celebrate who he is and what he has done.
