The questions and comments relate to the sermon on 28 August 2022, Actions Follow Attitudes.  The primary scripture is Matthew 5:21-30.  The Sunday Sermon failed to stream on YouTube, but the audio may be heard on this website.

1.  Context is crictical.  Review the earlier part of Matthew 5, especially read 17-20.  There are 6 examples in Chapter 5 of what Jesus meant as fulfilling the law.  This lesson covers the first two.

2.  Read the Ten Commands in Exodus 20.

3.  What does anger and unresolved conflict have to do with murder?

4.  What is the rhetorical device, hyperbole; and how is it used in Matthew 5:21-30?

5.  Should we really gouge out our eye or cut off a hand or foot?  See also, Matthew 18:6-9.

6.  Why is adultery such a big issue in scripture?

7.  If discussion is happening in separate gender groups, talk about effective ways of diverting your eyes and thoughts toward the pure.  See Philippians 4:8.

8.  Be reminded of the context and good study habits.   What does the scripture say?  What does it mean?  What do we need to do about it?

Jesus came to fulfill the law.  Courts judge actions based on rule of law.  God judges hearts.  When we understand what Jesus meant, it can really help us with the heart issues.  Do not be discouraged if it seems vague or difficult.  Keep on studying and praying.
